Production-Evaluation
My film opening was about a business mans wife which has been kidnapped but actually ran away with her secret lover, in which she betrays her secret lover for the ransom that her husband pays. Some of the changes that I made was that I made a rough film in which it didn't follow the codes and convention of film noir so I decided to do it again, some of the more changes that I had made during our final film is the editing and placement of the credits, we decided to place the credits at the beginning of the camera shot of the phone. The change from the previous rough film helped us to gain an understanding of the genre of film noir. Placing the credits at the beginning compared to the end helped the scene and introduce the names of the characters.
The target audience for my film was the niche fans of film noir, it was primarily aimed at men of a older age range such as them in their 40's and 50's. i know this because in my opening there is a film noir opening style the credits are at the beginning in my film noir this is the typical convention of film noir.
Audience feedback is important because it gives me an insight on what others think of my film opening it allows me to make changes to the film opening and also I can change the miss-en-scene. Some of the audience feedback that I got was that I was told to do a narrators voice over for the betrayal of the wife's secret lover, this helped to increase my marks in the film because I had included many different film noir 'talk' and vocabulary, it also followed the codes and conventions of film noir.
Some of the area I was most happiest about in our film noir opening was the lines of the voice over at the end, what I liked the most about this was that it added the element of betrayal and bitter regret, this is very common among film noir films, I was also happy about it because it followed the conventions of film noir, in Sunset Boulevard a scene inspired us to do this because in the movie the man was dead in the swimming pool narrating what had happened to him. Another this which I was very happy about was the portrayal of the femme fatale, the outside research that we had did (Double Indemnity) was the portrayal of the femme fatale, the femme fatale is portrayed as manipulative, sly and person who doesn't like to reveal her identity. We had used some of the aspects in our film and kept the identity of the femme fatale.
I now understand several things about making film openings and the media, such as introducing characters and setting the scene helping the audience understand what is happening in the film. I also more about mise-en-scene, such as when to use the correct technique according what is being taken place. Another thing that I have learnt is that during when the scene is being taken place, I am much more considerate of the audience and what the effect on the audience will be, the effect that this has had on me whilst making my film opening is that, we are using much more of better dialogue for the characters and better use of cinematography cameras shots, angles and movements whilst taking the audience in account.
