Distribution
The companies which were in charge of the film were Sony/Columbia. The film was distributed to over 61 countries around the world. The main target audiences were children and teenagers, as the main character in the film is a teenager that’s why it attracts young audiences to view it because they see this young actor, also it attracts lots of boys as the genre of the film is Action/Drama and the main subject in the film is Karate- Kung Fu many boys like this genre of action and drama and like the actual subject of the film, rather than girls as karate and kung fu is seen to be more popular to boys rather than girls I know this because I have seen surveys.
Exhibition
Many websites reviews show positive things about karate kid and flaw it very rarely, and the flaws quoted on
some websites are very minor such as too long running time. www.rottentomatoes.com said that “it may not be powerful as the 1984 edition, but the 2010 karate kid delivers a surprisingly satisfying update on the original”. In my opinion I think that one reason why they said it was ‘not powerful’ enough, was that some people’s opinions the original is the best. Then also said that it is a “satisfying update”. To me I don’t think the critic particular enjoyed the film because he said ‘satisfying’ which is in my opinion not a clear word its quiete vague .
People mainly watched karate kid 2010 because they liked the genre of Action/Drama, and that it’s a remake of the original karate kid in 1984 and it has to live up to their expectations.
Micro-Analysis Of Favourite Part- Jackie Chan Fight Scene
Sound
There are many different sounds in this part some of them diegetic and some of them non diegetic for example when the actors punch there is non-diegetic sound of air which implies that he has punched through the air and made this sound. The other non-diegetic sound is the background fighting music which is meant to make the audience feel excited and nervous; this non-diegetic sound mainly consists of the instruments of piano/keyboard and violin which is the dominant instrument as you can hear it more clearly and vividly. You can hear it most often when they are about to attack each other its used in this specific time because it creates tension, nervousness and suspense for the audience because they don’t know what to expect that’s why it’s a great time to use it. Also the sounds of grunting, impact and pain are used these are diegetic sounds they are used because for a realistic effect, because it would make no sense not to have noise in a fight when people are getting hurt and there is a lot of impact and noise so these diegetic sounds are added for the main realistic effect otherwise there would be no point and the fight scene would be unrealistic.
Camerawork/Mise-En-Scene
This scene is set in a abandoned garage, the garage is messy. The camerawork in this scene varies to different type of shots and how the generate meanings in the way they are done. The first piece of camerawork I see is when cheng has punched Jaden smith and there is a close up of his face, this shows Jaden smiths expressions and pains you can see his whole face makes the audience feel sympathy for Jaden Smith and all the pain he is expressing and his face shows that he is begging for mercy, with this there is very faint non-diegetic sound playing in the background which also symbolises and indicates his pain. Straight after this there is another shot facing 1st person view shot where the audience sees the part through the actor’s eye, in this case its Jaden Smith. This is important shot because it gives the audience a chance to experience the part through as it would be for him it’s also effective because it icreates a number of different of emtotions for the audience .After this part, cheng attacks Jaden smith but this time he has someone grab his hand this shot is taken from the bottom but shooting upwards towards Cheng’s face making him look scared and nervous through his facial expressions and also makes cheng look inferior to the person who has just grabbed his hand. Slowly after the camera rises towards Jackie Chan’s face as we know he’s the person who grabbed Cheng’s hand while the camera is rising there is non-diegetic sound playing to create tension and suspense for the audience shortely after this non-diegetic sound starts playing which gives a hint to the audience that something is going to happen maybe a fight or something. After this it shows a CU-(close up ) of Jackie Chan helping Jaden Smith. Immediately after this Cheng walk forward behind Jackie Chan and kicks, this makes the audience fell nervous because it shows that Jackie Chan is going to be in pain, as soon as this happens Jackie Chan stops this with great impact and power, with this there is non-diegetic sound of loud thump/bang as a excitement, because we're not expecting Jackie Chan to do this. After this there is a number of co-ordinated fighting moves they do , eventually Jackie Chan wins, this makes the audience feel happy.
Costume
The costume that Jackie Chan is wearing is his work clothing which is blue jacket and blue trousers, this shows that he sacrificed time to help Jaden Smith, which reflects on his character personality that shows he's helpful person. Jaden Smith is wearing casual clothing, which is jeans and normal top, but chengs and freinds are wearing school uniform which shows they are in a group.
Lighting
Their is not much lighting effect in this particular part, there is mainly natural daylight.
Editing
The editing in some parts of fights are really effective and ceate emotion, for eg: from the 2nd punch jaden smith gest it shows 1st person shot which is blury, misty and out of fous which shows what Jaden Smith is seeing. And also no sound is in this particular part which shows how he's deafned and slow motion is added for the effects and how it makes the audience feel, and their emotion.
Props
Their is only one prop used which is a chain to attack Jackie Chan, which shows power, danger and excitement.
